Throughout its decade of hauling passengers on the M&E, Railbus No. 10
averaged eight trips over the line each day.
|
|
Although patrons seemed to
like the service provided, continued and aggressive competition from
automobiles and motor buses eventually put an end to the M&E's passenger
service on April 29, 1928.

In late 1929 the bus body was removed and the unit was converted into a
self-propelled track maintenance vehicle. Renumbered "5", it was fitted
with a deck-mounted, hand-operated crane for use in lifting rail and faithfully
performed for the M&E in that service until the mid-1950's, when the
motor and transmission finally wore out.

|
Afterwards, the unit became an
unpowered trailer... all that remained of the original bus was the frame
and its wheels.
